You can't imagine the THRILL I got opening the door to see this Fighter Pilot from the Battle of Britain era..standing on the porch wearing a big grin and a little green jumper : )

All I could do was dash frantically for the nearest bomb shelter. On emerging after the raid I found that the shelter bad been straddled by bombs but, much to my surprise, my aeroplane was still fit to fly.
Account from an old friend of mine: shot-up, crash-lands, Spitfire cartwheels, goes through a wall and flock of sheep; soldier runs up to pilot as the whole mess rights itself: "You alright, chum?"
"No. I've swallowed my f***ing chewing gum!"
